Trend spotting in Dosan Park – INSIDE JoongAng Daily

The Dosan Park neighborhood of Seoul is the current trendsetting neighborhood. When I lived in Korea, all the buzz was about Apgujeong-dong, but not anymore, according to JoonAng Daily.

“More boutiques have opened here recently,” said Kim Hyun-jung, a manager at Gorilla in the Kitchen, the Italian restaurant in the Dosan Park area owned by Bae Yong-joon, a star of the Korean wave, or hallyu. “There are more trendsetters coming to this area, and the shops here are more high-end than those in Apgujeong-dong.”

The neighborhood is also well known for the many Italian and Italian-style restaurants, including Buona Sera, The Kitchen Salvatore Cuomo and Gorilla in the Kitchen.

For the “budget minded” tourist, check out Buona Sera at lunchtime. They offer three different lunch courses: Milano, Napoli or Roma, all under KRW40,000 . The Kitchen Salvatore Cuomo is an international Italian restaurant chain with branches in Shanghai and Kyoto.

Gorllia in the Kitchen, however, is what one might call very healthy “Koreatalian” cooking. GIK’s menu mixes Asian sensibility and ingredients such as tofu and sesame as well as American touches like Cajun Chicken in their heart-healthy Italian menu.

This restaurant became popular because of its association with primary investor and hallyu star Bae Yong-joon. Its menu focuses on fresh food and seasonal specialties.
